HAM

Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and the GAT

Which terminals does the transfer to Hamburg Airport serve?

Driversline serves Hamburg Airport Helmut Schmidt (IATA code HAM) at Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, and the General Aviation Terminal on request. The airport lies around eight and a half kilometres north of the Hamburg city centre and has Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and the General Aviation Terminal for private flights.

The airport lies in Fuhlsbüttel, and a small part of the site already belongs to Norderstedt. As Germany's fifth-largest airport it connects the city with around 120 direct destinations. Both passenger terminals are joined by the Airport Plaza, so arrivals and departures are close together. You are collected at the terminal where your aircraft actually arrives.

  • Terminal 1: the meeting point is in the arrivals hall, with set-down on the departures level
  • Terminal 2: the meeting point is in the arrivals hall, joined to Terminal 1 by the Airport Plaza
  • General Aviation Terminal: reception at the handling desk for private flights on request

Terminal 1

Arrival and departure in the north terminal

Your chauffeur waits in the arrivals hall, plainly visible with a name board, and takes over your luggage and the way to the car. On departures we drive to the departures level, so that only a few steps lie between the car and the check-in desk.

  • The meeting point is in the arrivals hall
  • Set-down on the departures level for departures
  • The meeting point confirmed in writing beforehand

  • The chauffeur takes the luggage and leads the way
  • A few metres to the car, with no trek to a car park or a stop

Flight Tracking

A delayed flight changes the time, not the price

What happens if the flight is delayed?

Driversline watches every flight until it lands. The collection time follows the actual arrival, not the one originally scheduled. After landing, 30 minutes' waiting is included in the price, at the terminal as at the GAT.

Delays are part of air travel and no cause for alarm. As soon as you give us your flight number, we follow your aircraft's status and move the collection accordingly. If your flight lands an hour late, the chauffeur's start moves by exactly that hour. You need neither call nor rebook.

Your flight is watched

  • Scheduled landing 2:20 pm
  • Actual landing 3:05 pm
  • Your collection 3:05 pm
  • Waiting time after landing 30 minutes in the price
  • The agreed price unchanged

Only when the wait runs unusually far beyond the time included do we agree the next step with you in advance. That certainty is what separates a transfer booked ahead from hunting for a car the moment you land.

Routes

From HAM into the city and the surrounding area

The journey time depends on three things: the hour, the area you are heading for and the traffic at the time. Between seven and nine in the morning and from four in the afternoon, traffic on the approach roads builds noticeably. On departures we therefore allow a margin, set by your airline's check-in deadline.

There and back

Both ways in one booking

You book the return together with the outward journey or separately, depending on how firm your return flight already is. Both directions run through the same request and the same contact.

  • For your departure

    • Collection at home or at your hotel
    • Lead time matched to your destination and your airline
    • More lead time for intercontinental flights than for domestic ones
    • Accompanied with your luggage to the desk if you wish
  • After landing

    • Met in the arrivals hall of your terminal
    • Collection timed to the actual landing
    • Several legs possible within one booking
    • Luggage stays in the car between the stops

Several legs within one booking are possible too — a feeder run from Hamburg Airport to an appointment, waiting afterwards and then on to the hotel.

Long distance

Travelling on by road instead of by air

A cancelled flight does not have to mean a lost journey. For those cases Driversline offers long-distance journeys in which the car covers the route the aircraft was meant to fly.

  • A cancelled flight when you still have to travel on
  • Routes where getting there, checking in and flying take longer together than the drive
  • Several destinations one after another, with the luggage staying in the car in between

Luggage

How much luggage fits in the transfer

The vehicle class follows the number of passengers and the amount of luggage together. Four travellers with a large suitcase each need more room than four business travellers with hand luggage. Give us both figures when you ask, and we suggest the right vehicle. That avoids having to order a second car at the terminal.

Worth knowing

  • Please mention outsize luggage such as golf bags, ski equipment or musical instruments when you ask
  • Child seats to order: an infant carrier, a child seat and a booster seat, with ISOFIX if you wish
  • From about eight travellers on, the shuttle and coach service is the way to go

Occasions

Who a private transfer is worth it for

Hamburg receives business travellers, holidaymakers and international guests in roughly equal measure. Some passengers need a quiet hour to prepare, others above all room for four suitcases and a pushchair. The same service covers both, because the vehicle class is matched to the booking and not the other way round.

  • Business travel

Quiet for calls and papers, and a reliable connection to the next appointment.

  • A holiday journey

No changing with luggage, no hunting for a parking space or a stop.

  • A family with children

Enough seats, room for luggage and a pushchair, and child restraints by arrangement.

  • Delegations and guests of honour

Met at the terminal, looked after in several languages, with several vehicles in convoy.

  • A connection to a cruise or a train

A direct run to the cruise centre or the main station, timed to the departure.

24/7

Before the first departure slot too

Can the airport transfer in Hamburg be booked at night as well?

Early departures and late landings are everyday business at Hamburg Airport. Journeys are possible around the clock, before the first departure slot in the morning and after late-evening arrivals.

Anyone checking in at six is collected correspondingly early, without your having to worry about a connection at that hour. Night and early bookings need a certain notice, which we agree with you directly when you ask. Within that period we reserve the vehicle and the chauffeur bindingly for you.

  • Journeys at any hour, at weekends and on public holidays too
  • We check short-notice requests case by case against availability
  • A quick phone call beforehand is the fastest way to be sure

Pricing

One fixed price, confirmed before the journey

Billing is at a fixed price, which you receive in writing before the journey. No meter runs, so it makes no difference whether roadworks lengthen the route or your landing is delayed. Surcharges arise afterwards only if you ask for extra stops or a changed destination on the way. What the price covers is set out on the transfer card above.

How your booking comes about

  1. Request

You send the flight number, the date, the destination address, the number of passengers and the amount of luggage.

  2. Quote

You receive a quote of your own with a vehicle class and a fixed price.

  3. Confirmation

Once you agree, the vehicle and the chauffeur are bindingly reserved.

  4. Pick-up

Your chauffeur meets you at the terminal and takes you to your destination.

Chauffeurs

Who meets you at the terminal

Every Driversline chauffeur holds the passenger transport licence required by law, brings years of experience and speaks German and English, with further languages on request.

Meeting international guests is where an experienced chauffeur shows what he is worth.

  • A greeting in the guest's own language
  • Questions about the route or the plan are settled on the way
  • Discretion goes without saying
  • Local knowledge: someone who knows the approaches to the airport reacts to a closed road before it becomes a problem

Fleet

Which vehicle suits your flight

A chauffeur lifts a suitcase into the open boot of a black Mercedes-Benz van

What decides a transfer is less the fittings than the load space. A sedan takes two to three large suitcases and suits business trips with light luggage. For families and holidaymakers on the way home, the van is the one, with seven seats and considerably more room. Emission-free journeys are possible with the BMW i7 and the all-electric Mercedes EQV; both are available when booked far enough ahead.

Direct provider

What separates a limousine service from a taxi

The difference lies in the promise. A transfer booked in advance means that a particular vehicle with a particular chauffeur is reserved for your arrival. At a taxi rank, availability at the moment you land decides whether and when a car is there at all. Within its own service area Driversline carries out the journeys itself, with its own fleet and permanently employed chauffeurs.

  • One fixed contact from the request to the arrival
  • The vehicle and the chauffeur bindingly reserved
  • The price confirmed before the journey, whatever the traffic and the waiting
  • A private transfer with nobody else getting in, not a shared one
  • Every vehicle licensed and insured under the German Passenger Transport Act
